What is biomass?
Biomass is any organic matter that is available on a renewable or recurring basis, including:
- animal waste and bedding (such as poultry litter)
- dedicated energy crops
- agricultural by-products
- crop residues (such as alfalfa stems and corn residues)
- wood and wood wastes
- grasses
What qualifies a material as biomass?
Biomass is:
- endlessly renewable
- created by solar energy
- 100% natural
- carbon-neutral
- generally non-toxic and free from chemical contamination
What kinds of biomass does Fibrowatt use?
Poultry litter will be a common fuel to all of Fibrowatt’s U.S. power plants. The other biomass used will vary based on what is locally abundant.
